Projekta aktivit?tes
In September 2004 the Latvian Country Tourism Association “Lauku ceďotâjs” has finished the project “Development of the criteria for the green certificate, implementation and control in rural areas and small towns in Latvia”, which was implemented under the EC LIFE Programme.

Within this project a complete methodology has been worked out how to develop and implement a national eco-label for small-scale tourist accommodations and how to make the eco-labelling system efficient and viable. During the project also a complex environmental education model for rural tourism entrepreneurs has been developed. And the association has demonstrated how to achieve recognition of the eco-labelled products and create market demand with the help of a successful branding strategy.

To find out more about the project progress and the results please read the Project public report and the summary of the study „Sustainable development of rural tourism in Latvia”, which has also been developed within the project.

Although the project has ended, the Latvian Country Tourism Association will continue awarding the „Green Certificate” and has already started co-operation with the Latvian Environmental Agency – the national representative of the official EU Eco-label “European Flower” in order to help the tourist accommodations, eco-labelled under the national “Green Certificate” eco-label to reach the standards of the EU eco-label.
